One thing that Watchmen Chapter 1 accomplishes differently is that it doesn’t use slow motion or sophisticated choreography during its action sequences, thus maintaining the comic’s more grounded tone. The animated film does the same thing that Moore and Gibbons did, which is to portray the battle sequences in the comic as relatively street-level and devoid of serious damage detail. This is especially noticeable in the scene where the Knot Tops try to rob Laurie Juspeczyk and Daniel Dreiberg in an alley without realizing that they are Silk Spectre II and Nite Owl II. The absence of complicated fractures and gore indicates that the main protagonists are expert fighters, but not superhuman ones.
