The narrative is set in a future where humans have destroyed most of the globe and have managed to survive by taking on the characteristics of magical animals who can control fire, water, and earth. The departing Avatar left these warring tribes in a state of fragile equilibrium, and the warlike Firebenders have since left Earth permanently unsettled. Sokka and Katara, our young heroes, come across a toddler who has been frozen in the ice.
