The story opens with splashes of colors, and a sense of urgency, which is characteristically exciting and promising for a Miller movie. Events are about to take place! However, as Alithea explains, everything that will happen has already happened. She declares that her story is true, and everyone is more likely to believe her if she tells it as a fairy tale. She begins to tell a complex tale about a talkative genie named, Djinn. The narrative soon jumps back in time, she rescues him from a bottle, he grants her three wishes, and she initially reacts suspiciously until ceasing to do so.
