After Donna married Reverend WC in 1996, they attempted to raise their two children, Ladonna and Princeton, a special needs boy, in an orderly East Texas home. WC is in charge of a small-town church and works hard to spread the gospel there. Donna, who has eighteen children of her own, is in need of such consolation following the death of her mother. With a renewed sense of need, Donna decides to consider adoption in an effort to expand her family. She meets with Susan, a Family and Protective Services officer, along with a reluctant WC. The couple starts the adoption procedure and shortly after encourages others to take in homeless children, a network of growing families in Possum Trot is formed.
