The movie follows Shirley Chisholm’s historic 1972 presidential campaign, in which she aimed to ensure that American citizens would once again be in charge and maintain the momentum generated by her election as the first Black woman to serve in Congress. Though the biopic features moving performances and an upbeat tone, it never quite clicks.
