Finbar Murphy is the center of attention. He changes from a reclusive killer to an intelligent reader of Dostoyevsky who, before understanding his error, also lets more and more people close to him. On either side of Finbar are a couple of truly great supporting actors who add some subtle but lovely humor to the film. Among the characters are Finbar’s client Colm Meaney, a small-town police officer named Ciarán Hinds, and Jack Gleeson, a rookie murderer whom Finbar eventually trains.
