With the help of his friends Moose and Porcupine, Harold has grown up in the comfort of his fantasy world, equipped with a purple crayon to make anything come to life. Harold receives instruction from the Old Man, an invisible narrator, but one day this voice vanishes, leaving Harold feeling motivated to travel to the Real World to locate his protector. Harold uses his crayon to create a portal. Then he leaps into the enormous city, followed by Moose and Porcupine. Excited by everything he discovers, Harold connects with Terri. A single mother, and her son Mel, joining them in Moose’s life. Despite having no leads, Harold is determined to find the Old Man. Harold is helping Mel while he plays with the crayon.
