Small-town detective Bob Hightower, who is more of a housecat than a fearsome lawman, must work with Case Hardin, an exile from the Satanic group, to find the murderers and retrieve his daughter after a Satanic cult kills his ex-wife and kidnaps her. They face the dreadful emptiness left by humanity along the journey, get innumerable tattoos, murder a few people, and commit several murders.
