Big things are expected of Waverly as she embarks on her residency program in Toronto to fulfill her dream of becoming a doctor. Waverly’s mother, Mrs. Liu, has arranged for her to spend the summer in Taipei, but instead of going, she decides to go to a small Canadian town where her aunt, Rachel, works as a local artist. Waverly ignores her mother’s calls in an attempt to elude expectations. Her plan is to go lost in the town and find herself among amiable folks who are happy to see her. After being tossed into a lake, Waverly’s neighbor Blake, a lifeguard, discovers she is unable of swimming and offers to teach her in the mornings. As they set out on their watery adventure, the two find themselves pulled to each other. Waverly is thinking about her future in Toronto as Blake takes care of himself, including helping his younger sister Isabel who is misbehaving against her worried brother.
