In the midst of rising levels of violence, the movie opens with well-known Jamaican artist Bob Marley getting ready to kick off the Smile Jamaica benefit concert, which tries to promote reconciliation between the nation’s two major political parties, the Jamaica Labour Party and the People’s National Party. A few days before to the program, Bob and his spouse Rita become the targets of an attempted murder at their residence. Bob is so traumatized by the incident that despite his survival and ability to sing during the performance, he departs to London, while Rita and their children go to the US. In the end, the year in London provided inspiration for the album Exodus, which launched him and his message of peace into global superstardom.
