There is no doubt about the poignancy of Hernandez’s story, particularly in the current cultural climate that appears to downplay any contribution made by an immigrant or someone of non-European origin to the United States. With a few exceptions where it dares to be honest and has moving performances from its two stars, the movie eventually adopts the presentation and style of the majority of previous biopics.
